Abstract

The comparative study of control methods against lotus thrips, Frankliniella schultzei Trybom and Scirtothrips dorsalis Hood was carried out at lotus fields of Ladkrabang district, Bangkok for 2 crop seasons: March-May, 2006 and April-June, 2007. The experimental design was CRD with 4 treatments: 1 ) applied with cypermethrin (40 ml/ 20 l of water ), 2 ) applied with imidacloprid (10 ml/ 20 l of water ), 3 ) applied with Beauveria bassiana (80 ml/20 l of water ) in combination with leaf cutting, and 4 ) applied with water (control ). The result showed that there were no significant difference (p>0.05 ) of lotus thrips density among these methods. In the first crop season the mean numbers of lotus thrips were 37.38, 31.97, 33.90 and 34.38 individuals/flower, respectively while that of the second crop season were 36.88 , 33.16, 34.06 and 45.50 individuals/flower, respectively. However, the thrips population was lesser and the lotus flower quality was better in the treatment plots than the untreated plot (control ).
