ABSTRACT
Aflatoxins
are potent carcinogenic and mutagenic metabolites mainly produced
by the fungal species Aspergillus flavus and A. parasiticus. These
species can contaminate several food commodities including cereals,
peanuts and crops. This article is a review on the morphological
and biological characters of A. flavus, the genetic research on
aflatoxin biosynthetic pathway and biocontrol research on A. flavus
and aflatoxin production.
