Program 2: Trip in Vientiane, Laos

Saturday 3rd November 2007 (One Day Trip)

Itinerary  

08.00-08.30
Travel by bus to Laos and meet the local guide at immigration check point.

08.30-09.00
Visit  the ancient pagodas (built in 1566 by King Sayasethathirath).

09.00-09.30
Visit the Independence Monument (built in 1960s for a panoramic view of Vientiane city).

09.30-10.30
Visit  Hor Prakeo (the Emerald Buddha, built in 1565 as a private temple for King Sayasethathirath) and then visit Sisaket temple, the oldest temple in Vientiane (built in 1818 by King Anouvong).

10.30-11.30
Visit the National Museum , housed in an impressive French colonial building ( the old French Governors’ house). For those who are interested in the history of Laos , it is definitely worth while to visit.

11.30-12.30
Lunch at restaurant.

13.30-13.30
Visit the Morning Market (Talatsao Shopping Mall) and Chinese Market for souvenir handicraft and other products.

13.30-14.30
Visit Simuang Temple to pay respect to Jaomaesimuang Stupa.

14.30-15.30
Visit Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge and shop at duty free shop before returning to Nong Khai , Thailand .

Visa

Foreign visitors who plan to visit Laos from Nong Khai province must apply for visas at least 3 working days in advance at the following addresses:

- Lao Consulate General, 171/102-3 Prachasamoson Road, Amphoe Mueang, Khon Kaen, Tel: 662- 4324 2856-8 Fax: 662- 4224 4918

(The visa is valid for 1 month and visitors can extend for additional 2 months.)

Visitors may also obtain visas on arrival at the Immigration Office in Laos and are permitted to stay in Laos for 15 days.

General Information

Nong Khai province, located on the bank of the Mae Khong river, is 615 kms from Bangkok, 50 kms from Udon Thani Province and only 24 kms from Vientiane, Lao P.D.R.

Travel

Car
From Bangkok, take Highway No. 1 to Saraburi province which connects with Highway No. 2, Mittaphab Road (Friendship Road) to Nakhon Ratchasima, Khon Kaen, Udon Thani and Nong Khai provinces.

Bus
The Transport Company Limited has a regular bus service both ordinary and air-conditioned to Nong Khai province every day. For further information, please contact the Mo Chit 2 (Chatuchak) Bus Terminal, Tel. 662- 2936 2852-66, or visit the website www.transport.co.th.

Train
Trains depart daily from Bangkok's Hua Lamphong and Bang Sue Railway Stations to Nong Khai province. Please call 1690, 662- 2223 7010-20 or visit www.railway.co.th for more information.

Plane
Visitors can fly from Bangkok to Udon Thani province and continue their journey to Nong Khai province by car or bus. Please call 1566, 662- 2280 0060, 662- 2628 2000 or visit www.thaiairways.com or www.airasia.com for more information.
