Prof. Serge Belloncik, Canada

Professor Serge Belloncik obtained a doctorate degree in natural sciences and agriculture from the university of Montpellier in 1969. After post-doctorate training at the faculty of medicine of Montreal University, he joined as from 1972-1978 the department of chemistry-biology, University of Quebec at Trois-Rivieres (Canada). He was in charge of microbiology courses and organized an electron microscopy unit. His researches were in the field of insect pathology and mosquito borne viruses.

Since 1978 Professor Belloncik was Professor at the institute Armand-Frappier, virology research center. He was head of department from 1985-89. He was during this period and thereafter in charge of graduate Master and doctorate programs as well as electron microscopy and cellular biotechnology units.

His researches are in the insect pathology, tissue cultures, pathogen-host-cell interactions and biotechnology fields. He developped research and teaching programs in relation with biological control of insects in Canada and in collaboration with different universities in the world and specially in Asia such as Japan and Thailand.
Presently, he is honorary Professor at INRS-Institut Armand-Frappier. His e-mail address is cpv5@hotmail.com

Prof. Dr. Yu Ziniu, P.R. China

Professor of microbiology, College of Biological Science and Technology,
Huazhong Agricultural University

Present address: State Key Laboratory of Agricultural Microbiology,
National Engineering Research Center for Microbial Pesticides, Huazhong
Agricultural Unversity, Wuhan 430070, P.R. China

Academic research and achievement:

During the past 40 years, he did a lot of outstanding research work in the basic
theory and application fields of Bacillus thuringiensis. He took charge of 42 domestic and international projects, including The National Key Scientific and Technological Program, The "863" and "973" Program, The National Natural Science Foundation, and The VBC Programs of World Health Organization, The ACIAR in Australia, the DuPont Company in USA and so on. He found 3 new subspecies of Bt , cloned 34 new insecticidal genes, and invented five kinds of natural and genetic engineering pesticides, then attorned them to 12 companies for large production, making great contribution to the development of chinese microbial pesticides. He was awarded 1 Prize of Progress of State Science and Technology, 11 prizes of the Ministry of Agriculture P.R.China and Hubei Province and granted 14 national monopolies and 1 international patent. Being teaching for all his life, he cultivated 128 doctors, masters and post doctors . He published 310 papers , of which 72 embodied by SCI journals; edited and thanslated 12 monographs and teaching books.

He founded the "National Engineering Research Center for Microbial Pesticides", the "State Key Lab of Agricultural Microbiology", and the "Supervision, Inspection and Testing Center of Microbial Products Quality, Ministry of Agriculture, P.R.China", which are the most influential government organization in China. He is a member of council of Chinese Society for Microbiology, member of the International Society for Invertebrate Pathology and the American Society for Microbiology; being employed as part-time professor or senior adviser by the World Health Organization, the Wuhan Institute of Virology(CAS) , the National University of Singapore, and America DuPont Company etc. He presided at 16 national and international academic conferences, and was invited to visit and attend conferences by 41 countries.

He was awarded the titles of "State Expert of Outstanding Contributions", "National Advanced Worker for Importing Foreign Agricultural Intelligence", "Advanced Worker for the State Program in Science and Technology", and "Hubei Outstanding Person of Ability Qualified Scientists and Technicians".
