ASIALEX 2009

Proposals for papers, posters or panel contributions are invited. Areas of interest
include E-lexicography, terminology and term creation, translation, learner
dictionaries, Aboriginal languages, sign language, placenames, and the use of
corpora in dictionary-making. Submissions on any aspect of lexicography,
lexicographical research, and methodology will be considered.




CONFERENCE PHOTOS

ASIALEX 2009, the 6th biennial conference of the Asian Association for Lexicography, will take place in Bangkok from 20th to 22nd August, 2009, organized by the Department of Languages and Social Sciences, King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL). The conference theme, Dictionaries in Education, aims to open up a forum for lexicographers, researchers in language education, linguistics and related fields.

Dictionaries in Education

Abstracts, of up to 250 words, are invited for presentations at this conference in any of the following areas:

  • Pedagogical lexicography: the history of pedagogical lexicography, theoretical issues in pedagogical lexicography, etc.
  • Teaching dictionary use
  • Dictionaries in any language(s): general, special purpose, monolingual, bilingual, bilingualized, etc.
  • The practice of dictionary-making
  • Research on dictionary use and users
  • Corpus lexicography
  • Terminology and terminography
  • Dictionary writing systems and other dictionary compilation software tools
  • Computational lexicography and dictionaries for natural language processing

Presentations may take the form of papers or posters. The time allotted for each paper presentation will be 30 minutes (i.e. 20 minutes for presentation and 10 minutes for discussion). A dedicated slot for poster presentations will be reserved in the programme. Details such as the size and format of poster stands will be announced later.


The official language of the conference will be English, which will be used in all presentations and printed materials.

The closing date for abstract submission is April 25th, 2009.
